Her work addresses consumption and production of self through interdisciplinary practices in performance art, new media video animations, and experimental video game development. Ava draws from her fascination on 3D scanning to archive her body while expanding on dialogues around hyper sexualization, voyeurism, labor, and self constructed mythologies as a trans woman. She has performed and exhibited at the Supernova Digital Animation Festival in Denver, CO,&nbsp; The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in Madison, Wisconsin,&nbsp; Chicago Artist Coalition, and at the Depaul Art Museum in Chicago. She has received the Make A Wave Artist Award from 3Arts organization in Chicago. She has been featured as one of the ten New City 2024 Breakout Artists of Year in Chicago. She is currently developing new works focused on ritualized actions in performance work that builds on variations of mythologized selfhood. &nbsp; &nbsp; Ava resonates with live performance, experimental video games, 3D printed sculptures, and new media as an expansive interface to understand and transcribe the body into symbiotic dialogue of physical and virtual presence.&nbsp; She expands on transwoman identity moving across conditions of hyper-visibility, labor, desire, and consumption.&nbsp; &nbsp; Her work exists to highlight aspects and current effects of persona-economies in how self definition occurs as well as desired, monetized, and mythologized. By interweaving technology, Ava builds speculative environments that present identity as fluid, continuously reconstructed, revised, and embodied.&nbsp; &nbsp; Ava arrives to live performance art as a generative ritual, a process of making and remaking the self in multitudes. She is intrigued by the cyclical nature of arriving to self through intimate displays of emotional communion&nbsp; across the exchange of digital recreations of her body and reconstructive gestures in her physicality as to be witnessed by others. The body exists over variations in time while she sustains emotional presence in intimacy during the conditions of being shaped in the shadow of voyeurism and economic exchange.&nbsp; &nbsp; Ava considers modular sensory experiences as active art making to engage with a living archive across all participants. She centers interactive mythologies as mechanisms of expansive self proclamation entangled in fragmentation of self perception. Rage is proof that empathy is still felt. Rage is ritual. Rage is care. &nbsp; &nbsp; This performance establishes a psychological contract to process trauma, violence, and bodily dissociation. A licensed phlebotomist draws 80 milliliters of my blood, foregrounding the trans body’s entanglement with the medical system, reuniting the body, and the process of becoming anew. This is both a site of survival and regulation. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; I Stand atop a 3D-printed pedestal embedded with the word slut and bearing three scanned heads of of hyper-sexualized “money shot” expressions. I pour my blood over my face and breasts from a 3D-printed pitcher . Accompaning this gesture, a video projection of deified versions of myself speak on looking to new realities in acts of defiance by remembering who we are as trans people. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;At the end of the ritual I hand a video game controller to a viewer. They pilot my virtual avatar through a self-created virtual afterlife. The audience shifts from witness to participant in reconstitution. I stand in the project as a physical body washing away the blood with water. &nbsp; &nbsp; This work is not sacrifice. It is reclamation. The performance involves a 3D printed 1 to 1 scale recreation of a 3D scan I had of myself before ever coming out as a transwoman to myself, to the world, and before any physical changes began to occur in my transition. This effigy I resurrected, my “boy” self that I still believe exists in the simultaneity of who I am today. The process of my own understanding and recognizing what it means to become something in the public eye, while also collapsing temporalities as a form of communication across the collective variations of one’s self, is at the heart of this work's purpose and presentation. &nbsp; &nbsp; The performance utilizes a large video projection that contains a collection of video artworks i created over the last 3 years, the 3D scanned sculptural effigy, myself, and a gesture of giving that boy what he always wanted which is finally to sleep with a transwoman. That boy never would have guessed that that trans woman he would finally penetrate would be me. &nbsp; &nbsp; This work is about the way we consume bodies via media and the ways that archiving oneself in the consumption of our intimate moments through data collection, voyeurism, hyper sexualization of transwomens bodies, and the formats we an understand the reconnection with our past selves to hold them and love them with the desires that were never met. It is a space in exploring the questions on care for representations of bodies even in digital stasis or animated avatars. The levels explore themes contained in nightlife, sex work, and the process of becoming in those spaces. In each level you are asked to collect items and activate the 3D scanned bodies as a dialogue with how we consume bodies both narratively, digitally, and through labor of hyper sexualization. The rubbing of the bricks with water is on thinking of friction of body to clay. A ritual in molding myself as on a stage for consumption the viewer. The flueroescent lights being a signal as they are programming to blink in morse code on a send off message to my family and old life as i moved towards a futurity. The remnants of the performance leaves imprints of the oscillating movements of self identification and actualization.
